International Alpine Forum
Bozen/Bolzano 10.–12.12.2026 @Eurac Research HQ and MMM - Messner Mountain Museum Firmian
Alpinism as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage – Ethics, Responsibility, Future
The International Alpine Forum offers an innovative space for transdisciplinary exchange and international dialogue. Neither a purely scientific conference, a cultural festival nor an exclusively institutional event, it is an international meeting place where alpinism, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, becomes a key to understanding the challenges of our time. At the heart of the Forum is the exchange between scientific knowledge and practical experience. By bringing different perspectives into dialogue, it seeks to develop new ways of understanding alpinism.

Vertical Stories", created by filmmaker and journalist Emanuele Confortin for the UNESCO Dolomites Foundation. The series explores the relationship between alpinism and the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site, intertwining the landscape and geological values of the mountains with the stories and experiences of the people who live, climb, and cherish them.
- Set in the Pale di San Martino mountain group, the episode tells the story of young alpinist Sofia Mott and her dream of repeating the historic Solleder-Kummer route, first opened in 1926 on the imposing East Face of Sass Maor. The narrative is enriched by the testimony of Manolo, one of the most iconic figures in climbing history.
